Why do I need business insurance?
Business insurance helps protect you from financial loss due to customer injury claims, property damage, vehicle accidents, and employee injuries. It also builds credibility with customers and allows you to quickly provide proof of insurance through a Certificate of Insurance (COI) when required.
Below is a list of common insurances and what each can protect you from:
Business Owners Policy (BOP): Covers property damage, third-party injuries, and lost income if a covered event forces you to pause work.
General Liability: Covers third-party injuries and property damage, like a customer slipping or a tool scratching a floor.
Professional Liability (E&O): Covers claims tied to mistakes in your work, like a bad install, incorrect measurements, or failing to complete a project as promised.
Workers' Compensation: Covers medical bills, partial lost wages, and recovery costs if an employee gets injured on the job.
Commercial Auto: Covers accidents, injuries, and property damage that happen while driving for business purposes.
How do I know what type of insurance coverage I need?
The type of insurance coverage you need depends on your business, your services, and your state requirements.
In general, many field service businesses consider the following core coverages:
General Liability – Protects against customer injury and property damage claims.
Workers’ Compensation – Required in most states if you have employees.
Commercial Auto – Covers vehicles used for work purposes.
Business Owner’s Policy (BOP) – Bundles multiple coverages at a lower cost.
Professional Liability – Covers errors or service-related claims.
Cyber Insurance – Helps protect against data breaches and cyber incidents
If you’re unsure what coverage is right for you, licensed Coverdash agents are available to review your business needs, explain your options, and help you choose the right level of protection.
Is Business Insurance available in all states?
Yes. Business insurance is available in all 50 states and D.C. It is not available for Pros in Canada.
Can I get coverage if I have a prior claims history?
You can still get coverage if you have a prior claims history. Your premium just may be higher. Coverdash will work with you to find the right coverage for you based on your history of claims, industry, desired coverage limits, etc.
How do I pay for my insurance — is it billed through Housecall Pro or directly through Coverdash?
Insurance is billed directly through Coverdash. After selecting a quote, you will enter your credit card information in the Coverdash experience to purchase the policy.
What happens to my policy if my Housecall Pro subscription lapses or is canceled?
You will still keep your insurance coverage even if you cancel your Housecall Pro subscription (but we hope you don’t!). You will need to log in through Coverdash’s website if you lose access to Housecall Pro.
How does policy renewal work? Will I be automatically renewed?
Your dedicated Coverdash account manager will reach out to you when your policy is up for renewal to review any changes that may have occurred in your business the past year and ensure you continue to get the best coverage and rates on insurance.
