Franchisee Identifier Overview

Written by Nate H

Franchise networks use their own internal IDs to track locations — license numbers, registration codes, franchise codes. The Franchisee Identifier is a dedicated field in Housecall Pro that stores those external IDs, connecting your franchise management systems directly to HCP.

With the Franchisee Identifier, you can:

  • Store a franchisee's external ID on their HCP account

  • Search for franchisees by identifier in the account switcher

  • Query franchisee data by identifier via the Public API for cleaner integrations

Setting the Franchisee Identifier

Option 1: Public API (self-service)

  • Use the Update Franchise Info endpoint with the field metadata.franchisee_identifier in the request body. Best for bulk updates and system integrations.

Option 2: Account Manager

  • Contact your Housecall Pro Account Manager, and they can set or update identifiers manually.

Account Switcher

Once set, the identifier appears as a subtitle under the franchisee's name. You can type any part of the identifier into the search bar to filter to matching locations. If no identifier is set, only the name displays.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who can edit the identifier?

A: Franchisors (via API) and Account Managers. Franchisees can view their own identifier, but cannot change it.

Q: Is there a required format?
A: No — any alphanumeric string works. Use whatever format your network already uses.

Q: Can I update identifiers in bulk?
A: Yes, via the Public API using metadata.franchisee_identifier.
