Adding, Editing, and Removing Tax Rates

Create and manage tax rates for your service items and invoices. You can set up multiple tax rates, each with a visible description for your customers. These tax rates can be easily edited or deleted as needed.

After creating your tax rates, you can apply them directly to job invoices to ensure accurate and transparent billing.

How to Add a Tax Rate

To create a new tax rate, start by selecting the Price Book tab from the global navigation. Then, click on the Tax Rate option located in the left-hand bar.

Next, click '+ TAX RATE.'

Enter a description and the percentage rate you want to apply to job invoices, and then click 'SAVE' to finalize the addition.

Apply Tax Rates to Services

Once you've created your tax rates, you can:

  • Make a service item always taxable (through price book settings)

  • Apply tax on individual invoices

This will default the service item to be taxable whenever added to an invoice

  • Click into your 'Price Book'

  • Select either 'Services' or 'Materials'

  • Then continue until you are in your desired service or material

  • Toggle on 'Taxable'

    • Blue = On

    • Grey = Off

  • Click the blue save button in the top right

NOTE: Once added to an invoice, you will need to select the tax rate to apply

The service item will now be pulled with the 'Tax' box checked any time you add it to an invoice.

  • You can turn this off for individual invoices by unchecking the box

To add tax on an as-needed basis:

  • Check the tax box next to the service item once in the invoice.

  • Select the tax rate you'd like applied from the drop-down underneath the Subtotal line. ⬆ (see photo above)

How to Edit an Existing Tax Rate

To edit an existing tax rate, start by selecting the Price Book tab from the global navigation. Then, click on the Tax Rate option located in the left-hand bar.

Next, click the Edit button in the top right corner.

Edit the Tax Rate Description and/or Rate field, and then click 'Save' when you're done.

How to Delete an Existing Tax Rate

To delete an existing tax rate, start by selecting the Price Book tab from the global navigation. Then, click on the Tax Rate option located in the left-hand bar.

Next, click the Edit button in the top right corner.

To delete a tax rate, click the 'x' icon on the right-hand side and your rate will immediately be deleted.

Callouts

  • The system does not allow you to designate a default tax rate; it defaults to the first tax rate in alphabetical order. To work around this, you may prefix a tax rate with 'A-', such as 'A-Florida Tax,' to ensure it appears first.

  • Please note that only one tax rate can be applied to an invoice at a time.
