Customer Names Carry Over to Customer Forms
When you're creating a Job, Estimate, or Lead and type a customer's name into the customer search, that name no longer gets lost when you select + New customer. Whatever you typed now carries straight into the new customer form.
This article covers how name carryover works when creating a new customer from a Job, Estimate, or Lead.
What you can do
Type a customer's name into customer search while creating a Job, Estimate, or Lead.
Select + New customer and see the name you typed pre-fill the new customer form.
Edit the pre-filled name before saving, just like any other field.

Name Carryover on the Web
How it works:
While creating a Job, Estimate, or Lead, type a name into the customer search field.
Select + New customer.
The name you typed carries into the new customer form:
A single word fills the First Name field
A full name (with a space) splits automatically — everything before the first space goes to First Name, everything after goes to Last Name
Your capitalization and spacing are preserved (extra leading/trailing spaces are trimmed)
You can still edit the name before saving.
Focus lands on the First Name field by default, whether or not it was pre-filled.
📌 Note: If the customer search field is empty when you click + New customer, the name fields open empty, just like before.
Good To Know
No regression to existing behavior: Editability, validation, duplicate detection, Cancel/Create actions, and the Homeowner/Business toggle all work exactly as they did before.
Web only: This applies to the web portal's Job, Estimate, and Lead creation flows.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I only type one word?
It fills the First Name field only; Last Name stays empty until you fill it in.
What if I clear the customer search field after typing something?
The new customer form opens with empty name fields — clearing the search resets the carryover.
Can I still edit the name after it's pre-filled?
Yes — pre-filling just saves you retyping. You can edit either field before saving.
