Job Splits

Written by Taylor L

Job Splits Overview

Job splits let you accurately attribute revenue across the technicians who worked a job, so your per-tech reports, leaderboards, and average ticket numbers stop double-counting multi-tech jobs. If a $10,000 job is split 50/50 between two techs, each tech is credited with $5,000 — not the full $10,000.

This article walks through how to set your company-wide default, edit a split on a specific job, link splits to commissions, and what to expect in your reports.

The feature is in beta and is available on Essentials and up plans only.

What you can do with Job Splits

  • Set a company-wide default split type (Even Split, or All to First Assignee) so most jobs are handled automatically.

  • Override the split on any individual job — for example, when the lead tech did 70% of the work.

  • Have splits automatically recalculate when you add or remove employees from a job.

  • Link revenue splits to commission splits with a single toggle, instead of entering percentages twice.

  • See accurate per-technician revenue, job count, average ticket, and gross profit across your reports.

Roles & Capabilities

Role

What they can do

Admins and Office Staff

Configure default job split settings, edit splits on any job

  • Note: If an Office Staff role doesn’t have permission to ‘Update company account info,’ they will not see the job splits settings page.

Field Technicians

N/A, no job split data is visible on the mobile app or editable by field techs

🛠️ Pro Tip: There is no permission for seeing the splits card — visibility is controlled by the company-wide "Show splits on job page" setting in your Job Splits settings.

Set your default Job Split Settings

Your default split type applies automatically every time a second employee is assigned to a new job. You only need to set this once.

  • From the left navigation, click your company name (bottom left) → Settings.

  • Under the Jobs section, click Job splits.

  • Choose your default split type:

    • Even Split (default) — splits revenue evenly across assigned employees. Two techs = 50/50, three techs = 33/33/34, and so on.

    • All to First Assignee — gives 100% of revenue attribution to the first employee assigned. Useful if you typically have one lead tech and one helper.

  • Toggle Show splits on job page on or off:

    • On (default) — a Job splits card appears on the job details page whenever 2+ employees are assigned.

    • Off — the card is hidden from job pages, but the default split is still applied in the background so your reports stay accurate.

📌 Note: Changing your default split type only affects future jobs where splits haven't been set yet. Existing jobs with a saved split keep their current setup.

See and Edit a Split on a Job

Open the Job Splits Card:

  • Open any job that has 2 or more employees assigned.

  • On the right side of the Job Details page, find the Job Splits card.

The card shows the current split type, each assigned employee, their percentage, and the dollar amount attributed to them.

📌 Note: The Splits card only appears when 2 or more employees are assigned to the job. Single-tech jobs always get 100% attribution and don't show the card.

Change the Split on this Job:

  • In the Job Splits card, click the Split type dropdown.

  • Choose Even Split, All to First Assignee, or Custom.

  • If you choose Custom, enter a percentage for each employee. Percentages must add up to 100%.

  • Click Save.

📌 Note: If your percentages don't add up to 100%, you'll see an error and won't be able to save until they do.

What happens when you add or remove a Tech

Action

What happens to the split

You add a tech to an Even Split job

The split automatically recalculates (e.g., 50/50 becomes 33/33/34)

You remove a tech from an Even Split job

Remaining techs are evenly redistributed

You add or remove a tech on a Custom split job

You're prompted to re-enter percentages — nothing is silently changed

You add or remove a tech on an All to First Assignee job

First assignee keeps 100%; others stay at 0%

Recurring Jobs

If you edit the split on a recurring job, you'll be asked whether to apply the change to:

  • Only this occurrence, or

  • This and all future occurrences

The split type you choose persists across the whole series.

Job Splits in the Mobile App

Job splits are not visible for now — the Job splits card isn't displayed and can't be edited from the iOS or Android app.

However, if you assign multiple employees to a job from the mobile app or (or update assignments and/or line items on an existing job), your company default split is still applied in the background, so your reports stay accurate. Open the job on the web any time to view or override the split.

How Splits show up in your Reports

Once splits are turned on, all per-technician metrics use the split percentages instead of crediting the full job value to every assigned employee.

Metrics

How it's calculated with Splits

Revenue per tech

Job revenue × split percentage

Job count per tech

Fractional — a 50/50 split counts as 0.5 jobs for each tech

Average ticket per tech

Split-adjusted revenue ÷ split-adjusted job count

Gross profit per tech

Job gross profit × split percentage

🛠️ Pro Tip: Because both revenue and job count are split proportionally, your average ticket stays accurate. A tech with one $2,000 solo job + one 50/50 split on a $2,000 job will show $3,000 in revenue across 1.5 jobs — a $2,000 average ticket.

FAQs

Do splits apply to my existing jobs?

  • No — we don't backfill old jobs. Any job created before splits were turned on will continue to show 100% attribution per assigned employee, exactly the way it works today. If you open an older multi-tech job and edit the splits card, a split record is created at that point using your current default.

Do splits apply to estimates?

  • No. Job splits apply to jobs only. Estimates do not have a splits card.

Can field technicians edit job splits?

  • No. Only admins and office staff can change splits or default settings.

What about tip splits?

  • Tips on multi-tech jobs follow the same split percentages as the job revenue.

Can I split by hours worked instead of percentages?

  • Not yet. A time-based split option (proportional to hours each tech logged on the job) is on our roadmap. For now, you can use Custom and enter your own percentages.

Can I edit splits in the mobile app?

  • Not yet. Splits are viewable and editable on web only. Multi-tech jobs created on mobile still capture split data using your company default, so your reports are accurate even when dispatching from the field.

Can I split a single line item across techs instead of the whole job?

  • Not in this release. Splits apply to the job total. If you need finer control today, you can use the Custom split type per job.
