Enable Employee GPS Tracking
If Employee GPS Tracking is included in your plan, you can view your employees’ locations in real time on the HCP Map from the web portal. To activate this feature, make sure your business hours are set up in your account. Follow the steps below to get started.
To enable Employee GPS Tracking feature:
Click the gear icon in the top right corner of your HCP account to go to Settings.
Select Company from the left menu, under Global Settings.
Click the Business hours tab on the Company settings page.
In your Business hours settings:
Verify that your business hours are set up and correct, or set your business hours by clicking the blue Edit button in the Operating hours section at the top, then clicking the blue Save button in the Operating hours window.
Once you've set up and verified your business hours, you can click on the HCP Map icon in the top navigation bar of your account to view your employees' locations during business hours.
You will now also see a map on the left side of the Job Details page, showing you the service location (colored pin) and the current location of the technician(s) assigned to that job.
View Today's Jobs on the HCP Map
You can use the HCP Map to view today’s jobs and get a clear visual of where your technicians are scheduled.
To view today's jobs on the HCP Map:
First, click on the HCP Map icon in the top navigation bar of your account.
Next, you will be taken to the HCP Map, showing all of today’s scheduled jobs.
Each technician will appear with their profile photo and assigned employee color.
A pin will appear on the map at the service address for today's jobs.
When you hover over a pin, you'll see the Job or Invoice number along with the related service address.
View All Customers on the HCP Map
In addition to seeing scheduled jobs, you can also display all customer locations on the HCP Map for a better sense of where your customer base is concentrated!
To view Customer locations on the HCP Map:
First, click the HCP Map icon in the top navigation bar of your account.
Next, you'll be directed to the HCP Map.
In the top left-hand corner of the map, click on Customers.
Then, select All Customers from the dropdown menu.
Semi-translucent orange pins will appear on the map, one for each customer in your database.
These pins allow you to quickly visualize where your customers are located throughout your service area.
📌 Note: The customer pins are an optional layer you can choose to display, and Employee job pins will always be shown on the map.
Employee GPS FAQs
What is required for Employee location to be tracked?
Business hours must be configured, the current time must fall within those business hours, and the employee must allow location access to the Housecall Pro mobile app (We recommend setting location access to Always and enabling Precise Location in the device’s app location settings).
How fast will the Employee's location update?
On Android devices, location updates are time-based and sent approximately every 15 minutes, while on iOS devices, updates are region-based and occur when the employee moves about 400 meters, when the app becomes active, or when the Schedule screen is opened.
What Employee location data will be visible?
The employee's avatar or profile picture will be shown on their last updated location on the map. Location data is also used in the timesheets feature when an employee clocks in and out, and their lat/long coordinates also appear in the activity feed events when OMW or Job Started actions are triggered.
Do location updates require the Employees to press certain buttons? (On my way!, start, finish, etc.)
No, these actions are not required.
When will Employee location data not update?
Employee location data will not update if location sharing for the HCP app is turned off, the employee’s phone is powered off, or the device does not have cellular service or an internet connection.
