What the Profit Rhino feature is exactly within Housecall Pro

Profit Rhino and Housecall Pro have joined forces to revolutionize pricing for HVAC, Plumbing, Drain Cleaning, and Electrical Pros for $149 a month. This feature provides each industry with a custom, prebuilt price book that imports seamlessly as Flat Rate Services and Materials, simplifying pricing.

Pros who subscribe to Housecall Pro receive thorough onboarding with an HCP representative. This process includes importing their selected industry price books and essential training. A key benefit is the ability to import multiple or all industry price books at no extra charge, offering flexibility.

To ensure a seamless transition, price books remain hidden until the onboarding call, integrating smoothly into existing workflows. Pros can manage each industry price book individually, which allows for efficient customization. Additionally, Profit Rhino offers quarterly updates to keep pricing current, addressing material cost changes and including items requested by Pros. This proactive approach ensures that Pros always have the latest pricing information, enabling them to thrive in their industry.

Why Profit Rhino is valuable

Profit Rhino proves its worth by offering an extensive database of industry-standard items, tailored specifically for HVAC, Plumbing, Drain Cleaning, and Electrical Pros. With a comprehensive selection of common services and materials, as well as a “Miscellaneous” book with diagnostic fees, permits, disposal fees, and other miscellaneous charges, this resource significantly streamlines pricing processes and enhances operational efficiency. By integrating Profit Rhino with Housecall Pro, professionals gain access to an invaluable tool that simplifies pricing management and ensures accuracy across multiple service areas.

What truly sets Profit Rhino apart is its unwavering commitment to staying current and relevant. The platform provides regular content updates to ensure that pricing reflects national averages and effectively manages fluctuations in material costs. This proactive approach addresses the dynamic nature of the industries it serves, adapting to market changes and evolving needs. By continuously delivering accurate and up-to-date information, Profit Rhino empowers Pros to make well-informed decisions, ultimately boosting their competitive edge and contributing to their overall success.

Integrating Profit Rhino through Housecall Pro not only provides you with a rich, prebuilt price book but also supports ongoing adjustments and enhancements, keeping your pricing strategy sharp and responsive to industry shifts. This integration helps you maintain accuracy, reduce manual workload, and focus more on growing your business and serving your clients effectively.

How to Prepare Your Housecall Pro Account for Your Profit Rhino Price Book

Before you can fully leverage your brand-new Profit Rhino price book, it’s essential to complete a few key setup steps to ensure your pricing is accurate and tailored to your business needs. These preliminary tasks will help you maximize the benefits of your Profit Rhino price book and ensure that your pricing aligns with your specific operational requirements.

To enable the Flat Rate Pricing tool, if you haven’t done so already, navigate to the 'My Apps' section by clicking the 3x3 cube icon in the upper right corner of your Housecall Pro account. From the dropdown menu, select 'Go to App Store' at the bottom.

From the App Store page, locate the 'Flat Rate Pricing' app card. Click on 'View Details' to access the app’s information.

On the details page, find the toggle switch in the upper right-hand corner. Click this toggle to turn on the app and enable it.

Now, click the arrow in the upper left-hand corner to return to the App Store.

Next, click on the 'Price Book' tab from the main navigation bar of your Housecall Pro account. On the left side, you will see the 'Settings' section. Click on 'Labor Rates.' On the 'Labor Rates' page, click the 'Edit' button in the upper right-hand corner.

If you do not currently have any labor rates, create a new one by clicking the '+ Labor Rate' button. Enter a description for the labor rate, set the hourly cost, and specify the price.

Additionally, you can select the radio button or option circle to designate a labor rate as the 'Default Flat Rate.' Be sure to click 'Save' to apply your changes.

Note: Setting a default labor rate is a critical step. This rate will be applied to the services in your Profit Rhino price book. You can always adjust this rate in the future if your break-even costs, overhead, or labor rate changes. If you need assistance determining your break-even cost, please refer to this help article.

Finally, you'll want to review and edit your material markups as needed.

On the left-hand side of the Price Book page, under 'Settings,' directly below 'Labor Rates,' you will see 'Material Markups.' Click on this option and then click 'Edit' to start adjusting your costs and markup percentages. You’ll find some default options available as a starting point.

How to make a Profit Rhino service or material Managed by You

If you have Flat Rate Price Books powered by Profit Rhino within your Housecall Pro Price Book, this section will guide you on how to edit and manage those services and parts.

You will notice that any Profit Rhino items, whether materials or services, that you have not edited will be in read-only mode. These are categorized as 'Profit Rhino Managed' items. Content updates will only apply to 'Profit Rhino Managed' items and will exclude those you have personally edited and set as 'Managed by You.'

To edit a Profit Rhino item, begin by accessing your Price Book. Click on the Price Book tab in the main navigation bar. Then, on the left side of the page, select either Services or Materials to find the Profit Rhino or Pro Managed item you wish to update.

Once you locate the service or material you want to modify, click Change to Pro-Managed in the top right corner of the item.

A pop-up will appear, asking if you wish to continue receiving future updates from Profit Rhino for this item.

If you decide to manage the item yourself, it will no longer receive updates from Profit Rhino regarding labor rates, materials, and other service details. To keep receiving updates, click Cancel and only modify the following fields:

  • Unit

  • Taxable Toggle

  • Online Booking Toggle

If you prefer to proceed with editing, click 'Change Service to Pro-Managed' or 'Change item to Pro-Managed' for materials. This will allow you to make your desired changes and turn the item into one 'Managed by You.'

If you wish to proceed with editing, then click 'Change Service to Pro-Managed' or 'Change item to Pro-Managed' for materials which allow you to make any edits you wish and turn the item into one 'Managed by You'.

PRO TIP: If you expect you will be making many items 'Managed by You', you have the option to click 'Do not show this message again' to skip the confirmation window.

Is this a direct integration with Profit Rhino? Should I contact Profit Rhino for the data?

This is not a direct integration. Housecall Pro will host the data sets provided by Profit Rhino for HVAC, Plumbing, Drain Cleaning, and Electrical industries. This setup allows you to manage and edit your data all within your Housecall Pro account without needing to pay for a separate subscription to Profit Rhino.

Can I choose what categories and data from Profit Rhino are added to my account?

You can select from the HVAC, Plumbing, Drain Cleaning, and Electrical price books during onboarding. You will receive the entire price book for the category you choose, but you can delete any categories that you or your team do not use.

How can I initiate updates to Profit Rhino?

You can initiate updates to Profit Rhino by navigating to the Price Book tab in the main navigation bar of your Housecall Pro account. On the left-hand side of the Price Book page, you’ll find a list of settings. Click on 'Content Updates' where you will see details about the current update as well as any skipped updates.

To start the update, click 'Update' in the Content Updates section. A pop-up will appear informing you that the update could take some time to complete and recommending that you run the update during your “off” hours. During the update process, you can still use your price book items, but they may not include the updated content immediately.

An email notification will be sent to you regarding the update. Click Start Update in the email to begin the update process.

How often are national averages updated in Profit Rhino?

Profit Rhino provides periodic updates to reflect changes in industry pricing. These updates ensure that the national averages and material costs are current and aligned with the latest market conditions.

Is it mandatory to apply content updates with Profit Rhino?

While not mandatory, we highly recommend utilizing Profit Rhino’s content updates to streamline your workload. These updates automate the management of service and material information in Profit Rhino price books categorized as 'Profit Rhino Managed.'

When initiated, updates will address material cost adjustments, fixed categorization, the addition of OEM parts and services, clean-up of outdated entries, and updated images.

Deprecated parts, although no longer supported, are marked but retained for your reference. To access the updates, look for a banner in your Price Book with a 'View Details' link that will guide you to the new 'Content Updates' section in Price Book Settings.

If you already have Profit Rhino through Housecall, you will not be forced to take a content update. These updates are optional but highly encouraged. They are designed to save you time by automating the maintenance of your service and part information, ensuring that you benefit from accurate, up-to-date data. This includes improvements such as part cost market updates, revamped marketing descriptions, and enhanced categorization, which can help your team fully utilize your flat rate price book(s).

What happens if I choose not to update?

We always encourage you to keep your Profit Rhino content up to date to ensure you are pricing with confidence. However, if you choose to skip a content update, you can always update at a later time if you decide to do so.

Please note that if multiple content updates have been missed since your last update, your price book will automatically be updated to the latest version available when you do choose to update. This ensures that your price book remains current with the most recent information and improvements.

I've already made updates to services and materials from my Profit Rhino price books, what will happen to those?

If you’ve already made updates to services and materials in your Profit Rhino price books, here’s what will happen to those items when you accept a content update:

When you accept a content update that is offered, any items you’ve edited and designated as 'Pro Managed' will retain your changes. This means that your custom adjustments, such as changes to the service or material name, description, price, cost, and task code or part number, will remain intact. These 'Pro Managed' items will not receive any new updates from Profit Rhino, preserving the edits you have made.

On the other hand, if an item is 'Managed by Profit Rhino' and you have not made any edits to it, those items will receive any applicable content updates. This includes updates to unit types, taxable toggles, and online booking toggles. Essentially, any fields that you have not modified will be updated to reflect the latest content provided by Profit Rhino, ensuring that these items remain current with the most recent information.

This system offers you the flexibility to control which items receive updates while ensuring that your customized changes are preserved. If you later decide you want to revert an item from 'Pro Managed' back to 'Managed by Profit Rhino'—perhaps to take advantage of new updates—you can simply select 'Restore the default.' This action will update the item to its latest version, incorporating all relevant content updates.

By distinguishing between items you manage and those managed by Profit Rhino, you can effectively manage your price books, ensuring that you keep the changes you want while receiving the latest updates where needed.

What is Profit Rhino Managed vs Pro-Managed?

  • Profit Rhino Managed - Profit Rhino Managed is the default setting for items uploaded into the price book. This means Profit Rhino handles all updates on pricing and content, with updates provided periodically throughout the year. You cannot edit or update these items unless you switch them to Pro Managed. Until then, the labor, materials, and duration of work for these items cannot be modified.

  • Pro-Managed - Pro-managed price book items are those that you have chosen to update and manage independently. By managing these items yourself, you can customize the duration, materials used, and labor as needed. Once an item is moved to Pro-Managed, you assume responsibility for all future updates, as Profit Rhino will no longer manage or apply updates to those items.

Can I edit these Profit Rhino Price Book items from the mobile app?

Profit Rhino price book items cannot be altered in the mobile app. The only way to update an item would be via desktop and pro-managing the service item or material

Can I utilize Profit Rhino items in Sales proposals?

Yes! When adding services and materials to sales proposals, you can utilize the items from your Profit Rhino price books. Additionally, any pictures associated with the services will be displayed on the proposal, appearing as small images next to each line item.

Does Profit Rhino provide pricing for installs?

Profit Rhino does not offer national average pricing for installs due to the significant variations in equipment brands, system types, efficiency requirements, and regional differences. Pricing can differ widely even within the same brand and region based on factors such as purchasing power and local market conditions.

For accurate and tailored flat rate pricing on installs, it is recommended to set up custom pricing based on the specific details of each job. This approach ensures that the pricing reflects the unique requirements of each project and local market conditions.

Does a customer see itemized material line items and labor rates from Profit Rhino?

No, the customer only sees the final price on the proposal. Itemized material line items and labor rates are not visible to the customer; these details are kept internal for your use.

Can I export my Profit Rhino price books from Housecall Pro?

No, you cannot export data from the Profit Rhino Price Books. If you export services or materials, any Profit Rhino Price Book data will not be included in those exports. If you need assistance with specific information or details, please let us know by chatting into the Blue Chat Bubble, and we’ll be happy to help.

If I work across different industries, do I need to pay $149 per book?

No, you do not need to pay $149 per book. For $149 per month, you can access one or all of the price books, regardless of the number of industries you work in.

Why isn’t a specific brand name in the Profit Rhino Price Books?

The content of the price books is created and maintained by Profit Rhino, and Housecall Pro does not alter this content. Profit Rhino actively seeks feedback from our Pros regarding any additions they feel are missing from the books. If you have any requests to add a specific brand, service, or material, we would be happy to pass them along to the Profit Rhino team. They will review your suggestions and potentially include them in a future content update. Please let us know if there's anything specific you'd like to see added by chatting into the Blue Chat Bubble!

Why did Profit Rhino set the price/time/name/description as it is?

Profit Rhino works with industry professionals and suppliers to calculate the costs and metrics for their price books. These price books are based on national averages for the cost of each material, the typical materials used for each service, and the average time required to complete each service. This approach ensures that the pricing information is accurate, relevant, and reflective of industry standards.

How can I cancel the Profit Rhino add-on?

Please chat into the blue chat bubble and let the representative know that you'd like to cancel your Profit Rhino add-on. We’ll be happy to assist you with the cancellation process!

What do I do if I no longer want flat rate pricing or flat rate pricing books in my Price Book?

If you no longer wish to use flat rate pricing or the Profit Rhino books, please chat into the Blue Chat Bubble to let us know. Our team will assist in removing the Profit Rhino add-on from your billing plan. After the add-on is removed, you'll be able to turn off the flat rate app card and switch your price book items to the non-flat rate view.

Why can't I turn off the flat rate app card?

If you have active Profit Rhino books in your Price Book through Housecall Pro, the flat rate app card must remain enabled.

When you navigate to the 'Flat Rate Pricing' card in the 'Apps' section, you'll notice that the toggle to turn off the app card is disabled. This ensures that linked materials, labor rates, and hours associated with flat rate services, including Profit Rhino items, are preserved and protected from accidental changes.
